Will lengthening the drum of an electric winch affect lifting capacity?

For factory-compliant electric winches with lengthened drums, the theoretical rated lifting capacity remains unchanged. Lengthening the drum only increases rope capacity to accommodate longer wire rope. Core load-bearing components including the motor, reducer and braking system are not modified, so the rated load indicated on the equipment nameplate stays the same.

However, losses occur under actual working conditions. After the drum is lengthened, the cantilever extends, putting greater stress on the drum barrel and support frame. Meanwhile, the total length of the wire rope increases, raising its self-weight. This consumes part of the load-bearing capacity, resulting in a slight reduction in the actual hoistable weight.
